A district-level farmers’ award and training-cum farmers–scientist interaction programme was organised by ATMA Wokha on February 12 at ICAR KVK Conference Hall, Wokha. The event aimed at recognising progressive farmers, strengthening farmer–scientist linkages, and disseminating improved agricultural technologies.
Addressing the programme, Extra Assistant Commissioner Wokha, Rechalungle, congratulated the awardee farmers for their dedication towards agricultural development in the district. She emphasised the importance of adopting scientific and modern farming practices to enhance productivity and income.
Deputy District Agriculture Officer, Renathung Kikon, spoke on various schemes and projects under the Agriculture department, while also highlighting the impact of climate change on crops. He informed about a new scheme to be implemented soon in every village. Deputy Project Director, ATMA Wokha, T. Subenthung Yanthan, presented major achievements and activities undertaken by ATMA, including farmer trainings, demonstrations, exposure visits and promotion of innovative practices.
Technical Session I featured presentations on “Quality Piglet Production through Artificial Insemination” by Dr. Moa, CTO (Animal Science), ICAR KVK Wokha, and “Fall Armyworm in Maize – Identification and Management” by Dr. N. Khumdemo Ezung, CTO (Agronomy), ICAR KVK Wokha.
Technical Session II included farmer–scientist interaction, where farmers actively raised queries on crop production, livestock management, pest control and marketing. Experts provided practical and scientific solutions to the issues raised.
Progressive farmers from different blocks were felicitated for their outstanding contributions in agriculture and allied sectors, marking the programme as a significant step towards bridging farmers with scientific expertise.
