Nagaland: Awareness campaign on unclaimed deposits

Dimapur

A district-level awareness campaign on the settlement of unclaimed deposits was held at the DC’s Conference Hall, Dimapur, on November 28.
According to a DIPR report, the programme was part of a nationwide initiative launched by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and State Bank of India (SBI) to ensure faster and efficient settlement of unclaimed financial assets including deposits, dividends, interest warrants, pensions and related funds. The campaign seeks to enable rightful customers, nominees and legal heirs to claim their dues, while emphasizing the importance of disseminating information at the grassroots level.
Addressing the gathering, RBI AGM Samuel said the three-month campaign, themed “Your Money, Your Right”, was launched by the Union Finance Minister on October 4, 2025, and will continue till December 20, 2025. He urged customers to approach their respective banks, Postal Bank or insurance companies, or use the RBI’s online portal https://udgam.rbi.org.in to trace unclaimed funds. Samuel informed that four districts across India have been identified for the campaign, with Dimapur being one of the focus districts.
District lead manager Rongsenyangla highlighted that deposits in accounts not operated for 10 years are classified as unclaimed. She revealed that Dimapur district has 21 banks, with a total of Rs. 13.22 crore lying as unclaimed deposits. To claim funds, beneficiaries must visit their branches with KYC documents such as Aadhaar, PAN, driving license and passport photos.
She urged the public to actively participate in the camps for timely redressal, noting that helpdesks would assist customers in tracing and claiming their assets. Village councils, GBs, community leaders and individuals were also encouraged to spread awareness to ensure every household is informed.
The programme was attended by village council chairmen under Dimapur district, representatives from Dimapur Urban Colony Chairman Federation, GBs Union Dimapur, GBs Association Dimapur and officials from various banks.
