An awareness programme themed, “Mitigation of Human-Animal Conflict”, was organised by Eco-Warriors Nagaland at Bhandari town and Liphi village, Merapani range under Wokha Forest division on November 30.
The event sponsored by Merapani Range (Bhandari Nagar Van Yojana) was aimed to educate and mobilize local communities to address ongoing challenges in human-wildlife interactions.
Co-Founder of Eco-Warriors Takameren I. Jamir, led the session, emphasizing the pressing issues faced by villagers due to human-animal conflicts. He highlighted the importance of conservation and discussed strategies to foster coexistence between humans and wildlife.
The village heads, including the GB of Bhandari and Liphi Village Council Chairman, shared their concerns about persistent human-elephant conflicts in the region. They described the difficulties of residents who struggle to harvest crops due to frequent elephant raids, urging the Wokha Forest Division to intervene with effective solutions.
Both councils expressed hope that organizations like Eco-Warriors Nagaland would play a crucial role in addressing human-wildlife conflicts while promoting conservation efforts.
The program was chaired by Team Leader of Eco-Warriors Nagaland, Widunbiliu, and began with an opening prayer by Eco-Warriors member, Chemsela Sangtam. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Eco-Warriors member, Leyamong Yimkhiung, reaffirming the organization’s dedication to collaborating with local communities to promote sustainable coexistence.
