Nagaland: Awareness on schemes to minority communities

Directorate of Minority Affairs, Nagaland, organised an awareness and sensitization programme at the DC’s Conference Hall, Wokha, on January 27, 2026.
According to a DIPR report, the initiative aimed to inform stakeholders about various constitutional provisions and developmental schemes available to minority communities at both the national and state levels.
The programme began with a welcome address by ADC Wokha, Renbomo Ezung. Delivering the keynote address, Joint Director of Minority Affairs, Andrew C. Imti, highlighted the importance of empowering minority communities through access to government schemes and emphasized their role in strengthening inclusive growth and democratic values.
A series of PowerPoint presentations were delivered by officials from the Minority Affairs Department. Programme Assistant Khriezotuolie presented on Micro-Credit Schemes under the National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation (NMDFC), explaining how the scheme provides concessional loans to economically weaker sections of minority communities to promote self-employment and income generation.
LDA Lily Tungoe spoke on the Minority Scholarship Scheme, which supports students from minority backgrounds in pursuing education at various levels. Project Officer Shalo Khing gave a detailed presentation on the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK), a centrally sponsored scheme aimed at creating infrastructure and community assets in minority-concentrated areas to ensure better socio-economic development. Assistant Project Officer Thejavizo Rio presented on Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Kaushal Samriddhi (PM VIKAS), a programme designed to provide skill training, financial support, and market linkages to artisans and craftsmen from minority communities, thereby enhancing livelihood opportunities. The programme was chaired by Project Officer Shalo Khing. Heads of government departments in Wokha, along with chairmen of village councils from across the district, attended the meeting and engaged in discussions on how these schemes could be effectively implemented at the grassroots level.
The awareness and sensitization programme marked the first of its kind in Wokha district by the Directorate of Minority Affairs. The department has announced that similar programmes will be conducted in other districts in the coming months to ensure wider outreach and participation.
