Nagaland Awareness on swine fever at CVO Office, Phek

An awareness programme on Classical Swine Fever (CSF) under LH & DCP 2025–26 was held at the Chief Veterinary Officer’s Office, Phek on November 11.
The programme was chaired by Wekute-u Kapfo, with an invocation offered by Angela. Delivering the keynote address, Dr. E. Mhonlumi Lotha, Chief Veterinary Officer, Phek, highlighted the status of CSF in the district and stressed the importance of timely vaccination, disease surveillance and proper scientific disposal of carcasses. He urged farmers to remain vigilant and adopt preventive measures to safeguard livestock health.
Thejakhrienuo Nisa, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Phek, also addressed the gathering and reminded farmers about the standing order requiring a fitness certificate from the veterinary department prior to slaughtering pigs in Phek town.
During the technical session, Dr. Khrusato Keyho, VAS, spoke on “Awareness on Classical Swine Fever & African Swine Fever,” while Dr. Metshepe Lasuh, VAS, presented on “Prevention and Bio-security Measures on CSF & ASF.” Topics included farm-level hygiene, safe disposal of carcasses, quarantine protocols and the role of vaccination in disease control. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Vezo Soho.
The District Veterinary Department encouraged pig farmers to maintain strict bio-security and report any unusual illness or mortality in pigs to prevent the spread of CSF and ASF in the region.
