Nagaland: Baby born prematurelyat 6 months survives

DIMAPUR

An extremely low birth-weight baby girl weighing 760 grams delivered at 6 months of pregnancy miraculously survived after staying for 75 days in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Zion Hospital and Research Centre, Dimapur.
The baby was delivered at 6 months of pregnancy due to emergency medical reason called pre-eclampsia by obstetrician Dr Mhabeni Ezung and team.
The baby was treated in NICU for severe infection in the body, lungs and the intestines (Necrotizing Enterocolitis) with bloody stools for prolonged period of time. The neonatal care was provided Dr Imkongkumzuk (pediatrician and neonatalogist), Dr Leonard Ezung (Pediatric and neonatal surgeon) and the dedicated NICU nursing staffs.
This is one of the first baby born with extremely low weight to survive in the centre after staying for almost 3 months.
Doctor Dr Imkong attributed a good NICU set up and complete team of doctors and nurses in a single centre for the possible care of such a delicate baby.
