The Bamsiakilwa Mithun Rearing Society marked a historic milestone by hosting the first edition of Hebamlo Mithun Festival at Bamsiakilwa Village, Peren district, under the theme “Our Mithun, Our Pride.” The festival, held on January 5, 2026, sought to preserve, conserve and promote Mithun—the state animal of Nagaland—while celebrating its socio-cultural and economic significance.
Gracing the occasion as chief guest, Namik, president of Tening Block Mithun Society, exhorted farmers on the importance of Mithun in Naga society. He encouraged households to rear at least one Mithun, thereby strengthening both cultural heritage and livelihood opportunities.
Village chairman Pauka highlighted the genesis of the Mithun Society and informed that Bamsiakilwa currently has over 300 Mithuns.
The festival declaration commenced with the traditional Battle of Horn (Buipei Kaube), where farmers proclaimed Bamsiakilwa as “Mithun Village.”
The programme was chaired by Nambang Pame, with Bamile Pame as guest artist. Ahungbe Nriame delivered the welcome note, while Kedirang Pame proposed the vote of thanks.
The Society expressed gratitude to ICAR on Mithun, Medziphema, for its support in presenting a young Nagami Mithun bull to the community, aimed at promoting genetic improvement and conservation.
