Nagaland: BKSL conducts horticulture training in Peren district

DIMAPUR

Basix Krishi Samruddhi Limited (BKSL), a national-level organization working for agri-based livelihood promotion, conducted a three-day training programme from December 18 to 20, 2025 in Peren district at Samziuram village, Jalukie B’ village and Nkwareu village, with 50 participants in each session. The training focused on “Modern Technologies of Horticulture” and was supported by the Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Dimapur, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India.
BKSL and CIH are working to strengthen farmers’ skills by promoting Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), sustainable farming, value addition at the local level, and exploring alternate markets for better price realization. Participants were trained with action plans to implement new learnings in their fields, aimed at improving productivity, enhancing income, and contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals.
Resource person, Sam Taro from the Spice Board of India, Dimapur Branch, shared insights on government schemes for farmers’ welfare, horticulture techniques, and marketing practices. He emphasized the importance of organic farming and healthy food habits, urging farmers to avoid pesticides and harmful chemicals, and to work collectively to maintain the originality of locally grown crops.
The training witnessed enthusiastic participation, with farmers keen to adopt new skills and techniques for self-sustainability and surplus crop production. Group discussions and interaction sessions, moderated by Aakam Pame, provided participants ample opportunity to raise challenges and seek solutions. Women participants, in particular, were encouraged to take up cultivation with renewed commitment and pledged to reduce dependence on chemicals and pesticides.
The three-day programme concluded with participants resolving to strengthen farming practices and enhance livelihood opportunities in the area.
