Nagaland: Black Pearl crowned champions of1st Perhielie Solo Memorial Futsal Trophy

In a thrilling finale marked by skill and composure, Black Pearl clinched the title of the 1st Perhielie Solo Memorial 5-a-Side Futsal Trophy held at the Perhielie Solo Memorial Futsal Turf, Kezieke Colony, Kohima.
The tournament, featuring 12 competitive teams, concluded with a nail-biting penalty shootout that kept spectators on edge.
The knockout stages showcased high-quality competition. Black Pearl secured their place in the final after edging past Team Old School in a closely fought semi-final. Phoenix FC, meanwhile, delivered an attacking masterclass to defeat N.K. Brothers 4–2, setting up a grand showdown against Black Pearl.
The championship match lived up to expectations, with both Black Pearl and Phoenix FC displaying defensive discipline and tactical awareness. Regulation time ended in a 1–1 draw, forcing the contest into penalties.
In the shootout, Black Pearl held their nerve, converting three spot-kicks. The decisive moment came when their goalkeeper produced a crucial save, denying Phoenix FC and sealing the victory.
At the presentation ceremony, Black Pearl lifted the winner’s trophy along with a cash prize of Rs. 15,000. Phoenix FC received Rs. 10,000 as runners-up.
Highest Scorer was bagged by Jonathan Tsela, with 14 goals. Best Goalkeeper by Riiyazelie Mere.
The memorial tournament was organised to celebrate the legacy of late sports icon Perhielie Solo, whose contributions to athletics continue to inspire generations.
The event began with a heartfelt tribute to Solo, remembered for his remarkable achievements: Four-time Kohima Village Sports Association Individual Champion; Recipient of the National Three Star Award (1969); Champion at the XIX National School Meet (1974); Double gold medallist in high jump and long jump at the Indian Rural Sports Meet (1977).
The children of Perhielie Solo have committed to hosting the tournament annually at the futsal ground named in his honour, ensuring his legacy lives on through sport.
