The 5th Convention of the Catholic Association of Nagaland (CAN) concluded on January 12 with a Thanksgiving Mass, marking the end of four days of prayer, reflection and communion at Jalukie.
On January 11, the programme featured sessions, a solemn Holy Mass, blessing of newly elected office bearers, a Eucharistic Procession through Jalukie town and a Cultural Night.
In a press release, CAN informed that session four began with an address by CAN president, Dr. Johnny Kadunsin Ruangmei, on “Faith, Hope, and Love in Action in the Mission of CAN”, calling upon Catholics to live their faith through active engagement in Church and society.
Session five was led by St. Xavier College, Jalukie principal, Fr. Dr. Francis Cheerangal, who spoke on “Living the Principles of Catholic Social Teaching in the Context of Nagaland”, emphasising justice, peace and social responsibility rooted in Gospel values.
The solemn Holy Mass was presided over by Bishop of Kohima, Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, during which the newly elected CAN office bearers for the term 2026–2029 were formally blessed.
The new team includes president Jonas Yanthan; vice presidents Er. Khrotso John Koza and Mopnyei Phom; secretary-general Victor Kevilhouthie Yhome; secretaries John Yimkhiung and Ruvisie Mark Poji; treasurer Er. Kolevi Kent; executive members John Tsulise, N. Lanusangba Leander Aier, Dr. Kekhrieseno Christina, Nyanbeni Humtsoe and Pukhaxü Luke; and advisors Dr. Johnny Ruangmei, Elias T. Lotha, Rovilatuo Nicholas Mor, Mathew Sangtam and Neingulie Michael Krome.
Following the Mass, a solemn Eucharistic Procession was held from the Convention venue through Jalukie town. The faithful accompanied the Blessed Sacrament in prayer and hymns, bearing public witness to their faith. The procession concluded at St. Xavier Parish, Jalukie, where benediction was imparted by the Bishop.
