Nagaland: Capacity building ToT for vocational trainers in Dimapur

DIMAPUR

The 3rd Capacity Building Training of Trainers (ToT) under the NEP Multi Sector Skill Education initiative was held December 15 at Hotel Grand Vista, Dimapur.
Organised by Lend A Hand India (LAHI) as technical and knowledge partner, in collaboration with Samagra Shiksha, Department of School Education, Nagaland, the one-day workshop brought together 24 vocational trainers representing 26 government schools across the state.
The schools are part of the ongoing NEP Multi Sector Skill Education pilot, which introduces students to multiple vocational sectors in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2023.
Sessions were facilitated by LAHI manager (training), Ayushi Sharma and senior instructor (Multi Skill Foundation Course), Metseruyi Tetseo. The training focused on strengthening classroom pedagogy and enabling trainers to translate policy intent into daily practice.
Key themes included understanding adolescents, creating supportive learning environments, and achieving defined learning objectives in skill subjects. Trainers engaged in group work, micro-teaching and lesson planning across modules such as agriculture, mechatronics, finance, fashion, healthcare and coding.
They also shared field experiences, highlighting challenges of large classes, limited tools, and the importance of linking classroom learning with real-world exposure through hospitals, banks and enterprises.
Facilitators emphasised that multi-sector vocational education under NEP 2020 was not merely about introducing new subjects, but about equipping students with 21st century skills such as communication, problem solving, teamwork and career awareness through practice-oriented learning.
The initiative aims to provide at least 50% of secondary-level learners in Nagaland with meaningful vocational exposure in line with NEP 2020.
