Nagaland: Catholic missionaries lauded for modern education in remote areas

Naiba Konyak, MLA of 55 Tobu A/C, and A. Nyamnyei Konyak, MLA of 48 Moka A/C, lauded Catholic missionaries for introducing modern education to the remote corner of Nagaland and nurturing young minds with discipline, values and vision.
Speaking as guest speakers at the golden jubilee celebration of Newman Higher Secondary School (HSS), Tobu, on January 8, the MLAs urged the Bishop of Kohima to initiate steps towards establishing a college in the near future.
Special guest Wennyei, Deputy Commissioner of Mon, encouraged students to compete with a healthy spirit and strive for excellence in all fields. Guest of honour Chemang Paul emphasised that hard work, willpower and determination were key ingredients for success in life.
Earlier, the jubilee monolith was inaugurated by DC Wennyei and blessed by the Bishop of Kohima. The Jubilee Memorial Hall and Library were inaugurated by guest of honour Chemang Paul and Dr. Haku Anshao, Medical Officer, District Hospital Mon.
Though Newman Higher Secondary School, Tobu, is run by the Diocese, it remains deeply rooted in the hearts of the people of Tobu and continues to serve as a beacon of learning and progress for the region.
The programme commenced with the traditional beating of the log drum by junior students, followed by the lighting of five jubilee candles led by the Bishop along with dignitaries, symbolising five decades of imparting knowledge and igniting the light of education in a once-remote region.
