Centre Chakhesang Public Organization (CCPO) has issued a public appeal following complaints received from the general public regarding activities affecting the maintenance of the two-lane road under its jurisdiction.
In a press statement, CCPO president Pupohu Lohe and general secretary Kulupoyi V. Vadeo recalled that the then Deputy Commissioner (DC) Phek had issued an order on May 25, 2023, and a subsequent notice dated September 12, 2024, concerning the matter.
It stated that in line with the directives of the district administration, CCPO had adopted resolution No. 2 during its meeting held on December 6, 2023 at Sakraba Town Hall, entrusting all village councils under its jurisdiction with the responsibility to address issues related to the maintenance and repair of the two-lane road passing through their respective villages.
However, CCPO alleged that certain individuals and groups engaged in stone quarrying and other developmental activities along the stretch from Pfutsero to Phek via Sakraba, Porba, Pholami and Khomi had failed to cooperate with the village councils on several occasions, thereby creating inconvenience to the public.
The organisation pointed out that activities such as extraction of boulders and hoardings within the existing road surface, construction of approach roads, dumping of excavated soil in undesignated areas, construction of structures within the perimeter of the two-lane road, damage to breast walls, and piling of debris along the shoulders and within the right of way (RoW) were adversely affecting traffic flow.
CCPO has directed all concerned individuals and groups to remove, vacate or repair the affected areas on or before February 28, 2026. It cautioned that failure to comply with the appeal would absolve the organisation of responsibility in the event of any untoward incidents. The organisation has sought public cooperation in ensuring smooth maintenance of the road.
