Nagaland on Friday celebrated “Ambedkar Jayanti 2023”, the birth anniversary of Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, also known as the “Father of the Indian Constitution”.
Dr Ambedkar, born on April 14, 1891, was a politician, economist, and jurist from India. He was an influential Dalit leader who led the committee that drafted India’s constitution during the Constituent Assembly deliberations. A strong supporter of women’s and labour rights, Dr. Ambedkar was also the first Law Minister in free India.
Raj Bhavan: Governor of Nagaland, La. Ganesan along with the Raj Bhavan staff observed the birth anniversary of Dr.Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar and paid floral tributes to the “Father of Indian Constitution” at Raj Bhavan. A press release by PRO Raj Bhavan stated that the governor urged upon the gathering to go through the life history of Dr. B.R Ambedkar who had “clear thoughts for everything and suffered a lot for the nation”. Secretary to the Governor, Rajesh Soundarajan highlighted the life history of Dr. B.R Ambekar and mentioned that Dr.Ambedkar was a social reformer, lawyer and political activist.
He said the nation remembers Dr.Ambedkar for his contributions in drafting the Indian Constitution and for standing up for the rights of the Dalit and the downtrodden.
Rajesh said Dr. Ambedkar argued for extensive economic and social rights for women and reservations of jobs in civil services, schools and colleges for member of ST/SC and others backward classes.
BJP Mokokchung: BJP Mokokchung district celebrated the “Ambedkar Jayanti 2023” by paying tribute to the “Father of Indian Constitution” at BJP Mokokchung office.
During the programme, main speaker, general secretary of 27 Mokokchung Town Mandal, Pranab Singh elucidated on the life, aspirations and achievements of Dr. Ambedkar. The programme was chaired by the president of minority morcha, Rongsenyanger Aier, general secretary of minority morcha, BJP Mokokchung, Odilepdang Longchar welcomed the karyakartas, and general secretary of BJP Mokokchung district, T Temsu Imchen delivered the vote of thanks.
Commemorating the day, BJP Mokokchung also distributed clothes and rice to the minority community.
MGM College: St. Thomas Mission Society of MGM College celebrated “Ambedkar Jayanti” at the College Auditorium Hall.
During the programme, MD Safikul Islam, B. Com fourth semester, encouraged the students to contribute selflessly to the society and devote life to serve humanity by taking an example from the life of Dr. Ambedkar. The programme chaired by Keyitwale of fourth semester witnessed a special dance presentation and concluded with signing of the National Anthem.
