Nagaland celebrates ‘National Girl Child Day’

Commemorating the inaugural anniversary of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme (Save the Girl Child, Educate the Girl Child), District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) along with respective district administrations on Wednesday celebrated the “National Girl Child Day” by organising various programmes and activities.


Dimapur: A BBBP sensitisation programme on “Girl Child Rights/Child Rights” and plantation drive marked the “National Girl Child Day” observance organised by Dimapur district administration and DHEW Dimapur.
A press release by DHEW Dimapur stated that to mark the significance of “National Girl Child Day”, the sensitisation programme was organised in collaboration with ANMA Integrated Development Organisation (AIDA) – Child Friendly Dimapur at Signal Angami Panchayat Hall.


A detailed information and knowledge on the significance of the day, the aims and objectives behind commemorating the special day was delivered by DHEW gender specialist, Dhonthaidi Langthasa. In a brief insights and information on the “Rights of Girl Child” and children in general, AIDA- Child Friendly Dimapur, child mobilization officer, Shemang S Phom spoke on the cases they have come across and on how legal knowledge and proper awareness on the services provided by the government could help in assisting the vulnerable children of the district.


The programme was chaired by DHEW Dimapur district mission coordinator, Lanusangla Jamir, welcome note was delivered by women president, Signal Angami, Dimapur, Kruseno Sophie, and words of gratitude by DHEW Dimapur gender specialist, Lichebeni Yanthan.
Meanwhile, a plantation drive was conducted with the female students of Government High School Lengrijan, Dimapur commemorating the closing ceremony of the “National Girl Child Day”.


Chümoukedima: District administration, Chümoukedima and DHEW Chümoukedima under BBBP celebrated “National Girl Child Day” at Chümoukedima Town Hall. According to a DIPR report, chairperson of Child Welfare Committee, Chümoukedima, Esther Aye said that 181 was not only for emergency but also for to give information on various schemes for girls and children. She also underscored the importance of educating girl child.


Aye also requested the government to take care of at least two Care home from the 10 Care Homes under Chümoukedima.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Munesh Payal while admitting the existence of discrimination towards girl child urged the students to acquire education, motive themselves, and become their own role models.


The programme was chaired by protection officer, Chümoukedima, Esther Sumi, and vote of thanks by EAC and nodal officer, BBBP, Chümoukedima, Mhashumi T Ezung.
Tseminyu: To empower women Tseminyu under BBBP, district administration and DHEW Tseminyu celebrated “National Girl Child Day” at Town hall Tseminyu.


According to a DIPR report, at the programme, women contingent for Nagaland Olympic and Paralympic Games 2024 and District Icon-BBBP, Flora Kent, Miss. Tseminyu 2023 were also felicitated.


The keynote address was delivered by deputy commissioner and chairman Mission Shakti Tseminyu, Rohit Singh, and short speeches were delivered by superintendent of police, Tseminyu, Tali Imchen, Rengma Sports Association president, G. K. Rengma, and a representative of medical department. The program was chaired by EAC & nodal officer Mission Shakti Tseminyu, Ruokuosetuo Tetso.
