Inter ministerial central team (IMCT) on Thursday visited Peren district for spot assessment of damage and relief work to be carried out in the wake of landslides and floods during 2025 monsoon.
According to a DIPR report, a meeting held in conference hall of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Peren deliberated various issues regarding landslide and necessary action to be taken. The central ministerial team was led by Gaya Prasad, joint secretary ministry of home affair (MHA) and accompanied by Sanjeep Kumar Suma, director; Dheeraj, regional officer; Mahes Kumar, deputy director – FCD; Chahat Singh, assistant commissioner and Nirmala S. Jain, scientist and Johny Ruangmei, joint CEO NSDMA.
At the meeting, DC Peren Hiazu Meru gave the PowerPoint presentation and highlighted the damages caused by heavy rainfall. DC said landslide in several residential colonies caused significant damage to the building and agricultural crops in the district.
Meru said that heavy rainfall in the district led to defoliation in many areas causing inconveniences. He informed the central ministerial team about fire incident and insects affecting agriculture products during 2025.
DC also said that incessant monsoon rain damaged various irrigation structures such as dams, channels and earthen channels.
DC informed that alternative route to Dimapur and Kohima, used by vehicles during blockage of NH-29 Patkai-Kukidolong stretch and Pimla-Mhainamtsi road, were also damaged by landslides.
Team leader, Gaya Prasad said that they have seen the damages caused by heavy rainfall and flash flood and apprised various departments to share their grievances caused by floods and landslides.
