Upon their return to Dimapur Airport on Wednesday, The Nagaland Chamber Choir (TNCC) accorded a grand welcome by several organizations, churches, and well-wishers.
The Nagaland Chamber Choir (TNCC) achieved international recognition and brought pride not only to Nagaland but also to India by winning two gold medals at the 12th World Choir Games held in Gangneung, South Korea. The prestigious competition is a global event that showcases the talents of choirs from all over the world.
Conductor of TNCC, Hito Kiho, expressed his overwhelming gratitude for the tremendous support received throughout the journey, adding that the choir never expected such extensive support, which made their triumph even more meaningful. He stated that winning two gold medals at the World Choir Games was considered a big honour, not just for TNCC but also for entire Nagas and the country as a whole, and dedicated their victory to the people of Nagaland and India.
Briefing media, Dr. Lima, a member of the choir, shed light on the funding aspect of their journey. He stated that TNCC managed their expenses primarily through self-sponsorship, with financial contributions from certain Churches and family members. He asserted that the financial support allowed them to cover registration fees and their stay during the competition, however he disclosed that cost of traveling to South Korea was borne by the choir members themselves.
While they did receive some financial aid from Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA), he however noted that there was no direct support from the state government.
Asked on the establishment of the choir, he informed that TNCC was established in 2003 under the leadership of Kughaho Chishi. “In the 20 years of existence, what brings together is the passion for music and the friendship that we have for one another that keeps us going”, he stated.
Regarding their participation in the 12th World Choir Games, he remarked that TNCC secured a direct entry into the 12th World Choir Games, based on their achievements at the 4th Asia Pacific Choir Games in Colombo, winning two Golden Diplomas, granting them the opportunity to compete on the global stage.
Meanwhile, president, Naga Council Dimapur, Etsungmomo Kikon, also expressed immense pride and joy adding that TNCC’s triumph showcased the talent and potential of Nagas to the world. He believed that this victory would serve as a strong message of inspiration to the younger generation, encouraging them to pursue their passions and excel in their chosen fields.
Meanwhile, the members of the TNCC also presented a special performance and enthralled the gathering and well-wishers.
