Nagaland Chess Association fetes 8-year-old Jeremy Nitova Zhimomi

DIMAPUR, JAN 4, (NPN)

The Nagaland Chess Association (NCA) has felicitated Jeremy Nitova Zhimomi, an 8-year-old chess player, for becoming the youngest player from Nagaland to achieve a FIDE Standard Rating. On January 1, 2025, the World Chess Federation (FIDE) awarded him a rating of 1420, marking a historic milestone for the state’s chess fraternity.
Jeremy earned the rating following his debut performance at the 23rd North Eastern States Chess Championship 2025, held in December in Aizawl, Mizoram. Despite being his first rated tournament, he was paired against six strong opponents with ratings of 1671, 1666, 1634, 1538, and 1445, along with one unrated player. Against these odds, Jeremy displayed remarkable skill and determination, securing 3.5 points.
His achievement has been hailed as a proud moment for all chess players in Nagaland. The Nagaland Chess Association congratulated Jeremy for his outstanding accomplishment and described it as a major boost for the sport in the state. The Association also extended its best wishes for his future endeavors.
Jeremy has been coached by Dipankar N. Gosh, whose mentorship has played a key role in nurturing the young talent.
