Nagaland Chhath Puja celebrated with devotion and unity across Dimapur

Staff ReporterDIMAPUR, OCT 27 (NPN)

Nagaland Bihari Samaj (NBS) celebrated Chhath Puja across Dimapur on Monday, marked by deep devotion and a spirit of togetherness.
Speaking to media persons, NBS working president Narottam Jha explained that the observance spans four days—two at home and two at the riverbanks. He informed that on the first day, devotees clean their homes and observe fasting, followed by evening prayers and puja on the second day. On the third day, devotees gather at riverbanks before sunset to offer prayers to the setting sun, and on the fourth day morning, they return before sunrise to worship the rising sun, thereby completing their fast.
Highlighting the sanctity of the ritual, Jha stated that Chhath Puja is not merely a tradition but an act of devotion and purity. “Devotees stand in the water and offer prayers to the Sun God. The water remains unpolluted as nothing harmful is added,” he said.
Major gatherings are being held at Rangapahar along the banks of the Dhansari river, where 483 families have made arrangements to offer prayers in a peaceful manner.
Meanwhile, NBS vice president advocate Y. P. Gupta, speaking aboard a special train arranged for devotees traveling to their native places, extended his best wishes to all. He described Chhath as an emotion that transcends generations, being the only festival that worships both the setting and rising sun.
To facilitate travel for devotees returning to Bihar and other states, the Government of India has arranged special trains from Dibrugarh and Guwahati, enabling thousands to reunite with their families for the occasion.
Across Dimapur and adjoining areas, devotional Chhath songs continue to echo through the streets, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of Patna, the cultural heartland of the festival.
The Nagaland Bihari Samaj expressed gratitude to local authorities and residents for their cooperation in ensuring a peaceful and harmonious celebration.
