Nagaland: Chozuba Village Council condemns hit-and-run incident

DIMAPUR

The Chozuba Village Council (CVC), Chozubami Razuve Hoho, Chozubami Youth Association, Chozubami Women Society and Chozubami Students Union Have vehemently condemned the hit-and- run incident at Chozuba Village on February 1, 2026 causing the death of a woman identified as Rukuseno Shijoh w/o Pusanu Shijoh, around 2pm on NH-702A, Chakhabama-Mokokchung road.
A press release by Chozuba Village Council, stated that the death was caused due to careless driving and overspeed vehicle. CVC said the accused is identified as Jahirul Islam, driver of dumper truck bearing Vehicle number NLO7A A1859 while his accomplice is Ajibur Uddin.
Upon initial interrogation and statements given by the culprit, CVC said that the accident was caused by over speeding and reckless driving under the influence of alcohol. The incident involved 2 dumper trucks heading towards Kohima. The first dumper intentionally struck the victim without any intention of braking, resulting in the victim’s death on the spot.
Furthermore, the second dumper due allegedly abetted the act by encouraging the offender to flee. This act renders the second driver equally culpable of the death. CVC further stated that the village community demands immediate and stringent action against all those responsible to ensure justice for the victim and their family and demanded from the responsible department to put up safety measures: rumble strips, road signs, traffic signals, proper signs, immediately to avoid such tragic incidents in the future, to save lives and for public safety. Failure to act promptly will only lead to further recurrence and loss of innocent lives, CVC added.
