Nagaland CIHSR celebrates 15th lamp lighting

College of Nursing, Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research CIHSR celebrated its 15th lamp lighting and oath taking ceremony on November 14, with former principal, Nursing CHB Odisha, professor, Mercy John gracing the programme as the chief guest, marking the official induction of its newest nursing students into the profession.
The ceremony witnessed 100 students, consisting of 50 general nursing & midwifery and 50 BSc nursing students of CON CIHSR, as they took the Florence Nightingale pledge and lit their lamp, symbolizing purity, compassion, and lifelong dedication to patient care.
In her address, Mercy John reminded the gathering that nursing was a sacred calling grounded in compassion and purity. Drawing from the life and example of Jesus, the ultimate model of selfless service, she encouraged the students to embody the same spirit of empathy and unconditional care that Jesus showed as he tended to the sick, comforted the suffering, and uplifted the marginalized. She also emphasized that nursing, much like the ministry of Jesus, is rooted in love expressed through action. She urged the students of CON CIHSR to uphold these timeless values and remain steadfast in their commitment to humanity, serving each patient with kindness and grace.
Director, CIHSR, Dr. Sedevi Angami, urged the first year students to pursue excellence and humility as they enter the clinical world. He highlighted the privilege and responsibility that come with caring for the sick and vulnerable. He also urged the students to uphold the values embodied by Florence Nightingale and to remain steadfast in their commitment to humanity. Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by professor, principal, CON CIHSR, A. Purnungla Aier.
