Nagaland clinch silver in Plate Division at Sr. Women’s T20 Trophy

DIMAPUR, OCT 28 (NPN)

The Nagaland Senior Women’s Cricket team secured the runners-up position in the Plate Division of the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy 2025–26, following a spirited campaign that concluded on October 17 in Agartala, Tripura.
Under the leadership of captain Limatola Ao, the team showcased consistency, determination and teamwork throughout the tournament. Nagaland advanced to the Plate Final after registering competitive victories against Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Manipur, marking another milestone in the state’s growing women’s cricket journey. In the final clash against Sikkim, Nagaland put up a commendable fight while chasing a target of 132. Despite a strong start, the team fell short by just 10 runs, narrowly missing out on the title. Notable contributions came from Ambika Kailas Watade, who played a key role with the bat, and Najmeen Khatun, whose all-round performances were instrumental in several matches. Reflecting on the final, captain Limatola Ao stated, “We started strong and put the opposition under pressure, but a few quick wickets turned the game. For a moment, I believed we could pull off a win—both sides felt the pressure. In the end, composure made the difference, but I’m proud of how far we’ve come and remain motivated for what’s next.” The silver medal finish stands as a significant achievement for Nagaland cricket, highlighting the rising potential and progress of women’s sports in the state.
