Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CNCCI) has described as “a defining and courageous step” the decision of the people of Phek town under the aegis of the Phek Town Public Forum (PTPF) to refrain from paying any form of tax to any Naga Political Groups (NPGs).
CNCCI through its media affairs the decision would not only ease the burden on the business community but also protect consumers — from the rich to the poor.
“This decision deserves acknowledgment and support from every Naga, and should serve as a challenge to other towns and districts to follow suit,” CNCCI asserted.
The confederation also said that NPGs “must take this as a wake-up call.”
CNCCI maintained that the Nagas, at no point, had mandated the existence of multiple and ever-growing factions claiming to represent one Naga aspiration.
Further, CNCCI said that NPGs should view the public resolution through a positive prism.
It stated that such resolution and action would usher the NPGs to come together, thereby strengthening the Naga national movement.
With unity, CNCCI said the public would be more willing to shoulder the movement voluntarily and in good faith under the banner and slogan of “One Government, One Tax.”
