Nagaland: Condolences on demise of Mongchua

DIMAPUR

Condolences poured in from across Nagaland on the demise of former MLA and veteran leader, P. Mongchua Khiamniungan, who passed away on January 26.
Sharingain Longkumer: Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) Speaker Sharingain Longkumer expressed deep sorrow, remembering Mongchua as a humble and dedicated leader who worked tirelessly for the welfare of his constituency and the people of Nagaland. Elected to the third NLA from Thonoknyu A/C, Mongchua also rendered service as an assistant superintendent under the Assam Government. Longkumer said his invaluable contributions will be remembered and cherished, mentioning that the state has lost a veteran leader whose void will be difficult to fill. On behalf of the 14th NLA, Sharingain extended condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for strength to endure the irreparable loss.
Tovihoto Ayemi: Advisor H. Tovihoto Ayemi expressed grief, describing late Mongchua as a dedicated public servant and one of the early leaders of Nagaland. He conveyed prayers and strength to his son, Benei M. Lamthiu, MLA and the bereaved family during this time of grief.
Ex-PAN: Ex-Parliamentarians Association of Nagaland (Ex-PAN) also mourned the demise of one of its senior members. In a message by president Joshua Sümi and general secretary Tarie Zeliang, Ex-PAN recalled Mongchua as the first elected representative from Thonoknyu Assembly Constituency in 1974, widely respected for his committed service to the people. Ex-PAN further extended condolences to Benei M. Lamthiu and the family, praying for comfort and solace.
PNU Kohima: Pathso Nokeng Union (PNU), Kohima, expressed deep sorrow at the demise of its revered elder and foundational leader. The Union highlighted Mongchua’s role as former president of the Khiamniungan Tribal Council (KTC) and Khiamniungan Students’ Union (KSU), describing him as a pillar of the Khiamniungan community. His tenure as the first representative of the 57th Thonoknyu A/C was marked by integrity and dedication to the common good. The Union said that his counsel and leadership left a lasting imprint on society and his absence will be felt for generations.
