Common Service Centre (CSC) Society of Dimapur, Niuland, and Chümoukedima districts has cautioned the public that, as per recent government notifications, any PAN card not linked with Aadhaar will be deactivated. It affirmed that the information circulating in the media is authentic and urged citizens to complete the linking process if not already done.
According to the CSC Society, it has observed that the delay has led to panic among citizens, during which some business operators and centres have taken advantage of the situation by overcharging or misleading individuals—particularly the elderly and those unfamiliar with online procedures.
To safeguard the public, the CSC Society issued the following guidelines:
The Government of India has fixed the official late linking fee at Rs. 1000, and no additional penalty is applicable. CSC Centres may charge a nominal service fee between Rs. 50 and Rs.100 for assistance. Any charge beyond this is considered overcharging, and citizens are advised to report such cases to the concerned authorities.
Citizens visiting CSC or PAN service centres are encouraged to verify their PAN–Aadhaar linking status by requesting the operator to display the status screen. The Society noted that in some cases, individuals were wrongly informed that their PAN was not linked and were charged unnecessarily.
The public is also informed that PAN–Aadhaar linking status can be checked free of cost through the official Income Tax Department website. Those who applied for a PAN card using their Aadhaar need not take further action, as the linkage is automatic.
