Nagaland: Culmination of 16 Days activism against GBV

The culmination of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and observance of International Human Rights Day 2025 was marked across Nagaland with programmes held in Wokha, Kiphire and Tseminyu districts on December 10.
Wokha: Wokha district administration, in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare, District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Sakhi-One Stop Centre (OSC) and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) under Mission Shakti, organised the programme at Titi Hall. Addressing the gathering as special guest, ADC Wokha, Renbomo Ezung, underscored the growing concern of gender-based violence, stressing that such violence is prevalent even within communities. He urged participants to build a society free from violence and actively spread awareness. The programme was chaired by Mhathung Kikon, with the welcome address delivered by Dr. Wonchano E. Enny, DMC, DHEE.
Kiphire: At Kiphire, the programme was held at DPDB Hall under the theme “Human Rights: Our Everyday Essentials.” Organised by the district administration and Mission Shakti, the event featured thematic messages and a panel discussion on strengthening district systems for prevention of violence against women and girls. Panelists included Ripise, BPM NSRLM Kiphire Block; Lithsa, Lihpikihna Org; Berela, District Project Associate; and Nancy Sangtam, Associate Secretary, Christian Education USBLA.
The welcome address was delivered by EAC Kiphire, Takatemjen Pongen, while a pledge was administered by Asheto, Accounts Assistant, Mission Shakti (DHEW). The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Tsosingthsi, Counsellor OSC, Kiphire.
Tseminyu: In a historic move, Tseminyu district declared Kithagha, Tseminyu and Khenyu villages as the first Child Marriage Free Villages in Nagaland, marking a milestone in child rights protection. The declaration, made under the 100 Days Campaign of Child Marriage Free India of the Department of Women and Child Development, was announced during the culmination programme held at DC Conference Hall.
DC Tseminyu, Japheth Woch (NCS), who also serves as chairperson DLC Mission Shakti, emphasised that freedom from child marriage is a fundamental human right and called upon communities to safeguard the dignity, safety and future of children. The programme was chaired by Victoria Kent, District Mission Coordinator (DHEW), and featured invocation by Bhatile Semy, Gender Specialist DHEW, experience sharing by Jetilo Apon, chairman Child Welfare Committee, and Neivotuonu Rutsa, Legal cum Prohibition Officer (LCPU), DCPU Tseminyu, along with a video presentation by Sakhi-One Stop Centre.
