Day two of the 25th Hornbill Festival witnessed a vibrant cultural showcase under the theme “Cultural Connect”, celebrating the diversity and traditions of Nagaland’s tribes.
Hosted by deputy chief minister T.R. Zeliang, with G. Ikuto Zhimomi, Advisor for Land Resources, as co-host, the event welcomed Ravi Bhatnagar, director of External Affairs and Partnerships, South Asia, Reckitt, as the honored guest.
Cultural performances remained as the key highlight of the festival, with each tribe presenting traditional dances and songs that honor their rich heritage. A special commemorative performance from each tribe is slated for different days of the festival, culminating in the announcement of a winner at the event’s conclusion.
On Monday, Angami cultural troupe presented Sozie Pfhe, a Sekrenyi festival folk song inspired by the bird Sozie. Ao cultural troupe enacted final rituals of the Moatsu Festival, featuring communal harmony through traditional songs and games like Aar Atsütepba (tug-of-war).
Chang cultural troupe portrayed Sangsang Yamli (creation of a new village) with symbolic rituals and chants.
Chakhesang cultural troupe delivered Kole (Unity Song), symbolizing consensus and communal harmony in traditional decision-making. Khiamniungan cultural troupe performed Mongkao Kum, a welcoming dance for special guests.
Mizo cultural troupe sowcased the intricate ‘Cheraw Dance’ (Bamboo Dance) and Sarlamkai, a warrior dance celebrating victory.
Garo cultural troupe demonstrated Jaktong Sika, a traditional game of strength. Konyak cultural troupe presented Sang Pu Hem, a folk song commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Hornbill Festival.
Lotha cultural troupe re-enacted Ritso Sharü (war dance), depicting ancient war traditions. Kachari cultural troupe performed Majangdini, a folk song of love and longing. Phom cultural troupe delivered Üngo Jala, a women’s work-song inspired by the bird Üngo.
Yimkhiung cultural troupe presented Sang Athrong Khün, a bravery song celebrating victorious warriors.
Sumi cultural troupe performed Aphilo Kuwo, a warrior dance of thanksgiving and celebration.
Zeliang cultural troupe sng Luisunbo, a melodic folk song of love and emotions. Tikhir cultural troupe displayed Tsonglak Tsin, a dance symbolizing the sanctification of war weapons. Kuki cultural troupe concluded with Kangchong Kap (Top Game), a traditional competition of skill and precision.
