The afternoon session of the second day of the Cultural Extravagance witnessed cultural performances by the tribes of Nagaland under the theme of “Cultural Connect”. The event was hosted by minister, PHE, Jacob Zhimomi along with his Co-host Advisor, Agriculture, Mhathung Yanthan.
The event began with presentation of the Tmangra Lin (Fly Dance) by the Zeliang Cultural Troupe which the youth folk perform to flashback the vivid and luxurious life of a fly during harvesting season.
Lenchongghoi La- Folklore by the Kuki Cultural Troupe depicted the story of how seven brothers failed to rescue their sister from the hand of extra ordinary man- Khalvompu.The Yimkhiung Cultural Troupe presented a commemorative performance about the merry making with the loved and dear ones while the RiminNelaiba, a traditional game was showcased by the Kachari Cultural Troupe which is played during social gatherings by the Dimasas.
The Tikhir Cultural Troupe presented a local love song, Lumaiti followed by a demonstration of Cheloche (Cock Fight) performed by the Sumi Cultural Troupe which is a game that tests not only physical strength but also encourages strategic thinking and agility.
KhülingKyaba, a Pangram beans game was performed by the Sangtam Cultural Troupe which is an indigenous game that is played only among the girls and women. The Rengma Cultural Troupe sang a traditional folksong called MapiGhiKhwi.
Jujutsong, a festival dance was performed by the Pochury Cultural Troupe which is a dance performed at their premier festival, Chanyathaku. Pangyenla (Yarn Spinning) was demonstrated by Phom Cultural Troupe which is a traditional way of spinning cotton into yarn. The Lotha Cultural Troupe presented EramorenPoniNzantaKhen, a couples’ folk love.
Weehok Ok Yang E LokpuHeiWeetangpu, a traditional dance, was enacted by the Konyak Cultural Troupe. The Ao Cultural Troupe performed a folk song composed by the troupe leader of Watemdong Cultural Club, Ungma, Limayanger Jamir Tatar as a tribute to 25th Hornbill Festival, and the Khiamniungan Cultural Troupe performed HoiyieZui, a folksong sung at the end of the year when harvest is done and all field work is completed.
ChupriHoo was performed by the Chakhesang Cultural Troupe which is a song of cultivating foxtail millet which is closely tied to the traditional practice of Jhum cultivation.Anching Re’ Re, a folksong was performed by the Garo Cultural Troupe.
The Chang Cultural Troupe demonstrated Lakhu Thuten Lüngbü Hoba Lalap Dongsen Tetsida, the playing of the log drum. The Angami Cultural Troupe performed SeishüPfhe, a wood hauling song sung while carrying firewood home from the field.
Treasures of Nagaland exhibition-cum-sale
DIMAPUR: Treasures of Nagaland exhibition-cum-sale organized by YouthNet and sponsored by NABARD was inaugurated at Made in Nagaland Centre, Kohima by General Manager/OIC, NABARD, Pauliankap Bulte on December 2.
According to DIPR report, speaking at the inaugural function, Pauliankap Bulte said Nagaland was ahead of other peer states of the North East in the field of food processing based on Cottage Industry with a variety of locally made food items available in the market, and encouraged the promotion of Naga Cuisine. He also suggested the entrepreneurs for a cluster mode of food processing where NABARD can assist them.
Lauding the participants and entrepreneurs of the Treasures of Nagaland exhibition-cum-sale, he suggested them to listen to their customers and interact with them for feedbacks on their products, quality and packaging as only attentive listeners can improve their products, visualize the potential market to sell their products and to earn more revenue.
Nodal Officer & Head-Business Development & Corporate Communication, YouthNet, Razouvikhol Luho in his welcome address highlighted that YouthNet had collaborated with the NABARD since 2019 and have been training entrepreneurs in skill development and hospitality sectors. He said, with the help of NABARD many of the participants who have undergone the training were well settled successfully and hoped that this 10 days exhibition-cum-sale would have a great impact on the participating entrepreneurs.
Supervisor-YIC, YouthNet, Vetolu Dawhuo who chaired the programme mentioned that the Treasures of Nagaland exhibition-cum-sale was undertaken as a part of the 25th Years Celebration of Hornbill Festival to promote local artisans and entrepreneurs to a wider platform. The programme was attended by entrepreneurs from different districts of the state.
GST Help Desk at Kisama

DIMAPUR: A GST Seva Kendra (Help Desk) has been set up by Central GST Commissionerate Dimapur at the Kisama Heritage village at the 25th edition of the Hornbill Festival.
A press release by Central GST Commissionerate Dimapur informed that the stall was inaugurated on December 1 by advisor Industries & Commerce, Hekani Jakhalu, in the presence of Commissioner CGST, RH Meena.
All start-ups, entrepreneurs and businesses have been encouraged to visit the help desk for any queries related to GST, located at the first floor of Bamboo Pavilion, which would be opened during the 10 days of the festival.
Pony farm inaugurated at Kigwema

DIMAPUR: Advisor of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Kazheto Kinimi inaugurated the Pony Farm at Kigwema at the 25th Hornbill Festival on December 1, 2024. The program was chaired by Vikeyie Kenya, Commissioner and Secretary of AH & VS.
The event features the signature products of Weeshi, the majestic Mithun display, Milkcon showcase, exciting pony rides and vibrant food booths, etc. in partnership with ICAR & local entrepreneurs.
Kazheto Kinimi was accompanied by Sethrongkyu, advisor of Information Technology and Communication, Economics and Statistics, Evaluation, A. Pangjung, advisor of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Er. Kropol Vitsu, advisor of Prison, Printing & Stationery and H Tovihoto Ayemi, advisor of Tribal Affairs & Election.
