Nagaland: Cultural troupes compete in tug-of-war

Cultural troupes representing different Naga tribes showcased their strength and unity in a tug-of-war competition held as part of the ongoing 26th edition of the Hornbill Festival 2025. The event, conducted by the Department of Youth Resources & Sports, took place at the Unity Plaza, Naga Heritage Village, Kisama, on Thursday.
The contest featured both men’s and women’s categories, drawing enthusiastic participation and lively support from festival-goers.
In the men’s category, the Chakhesang tribe emerged victorious, demonstrating resilience and teamwork.
The Khiamniungan tribe secured the first runners-up position, while the Angami tribe finished as second runners-up.
In the women’s category, the Khiamniungan tribe claimed the top spot with a spirited performance. The Yimkhiung tribe took the first runners-up position, while the Chakhesang tribe finished as second runners-up, adding to their strong presence in the competition.
To recognize their achievements, the winners in each category were awarded cash prizes of Rs. 30,000, Rs. 20,000, and Rs. 15,000 respectively. The event not only celebrated physical strength and endurance but also highlighted the cultural vibrancy and communal spirit that define the Hornbill Festival.
