The second day of the Tokhü Emong festival was held at the Public Ground, Wokha, with MLA and Chairman of DPDB, Tseminy, Arch. Jwenga Seb gracing the event as special guest.
In his address, the MLA extended warm Tokhü Emong greetings to the Lotha community and spoke on the deep-rooted friendship between the Lotha and Rengma communities, noting that their shared boundaries, forests, and cultural ties have long strengthened their relationship. He said visiting Wokha felt like “coming home.”
Emphasizing the values handed down by the ancestors, he highlighted resilience, hard work, honesty, and unity as foundational principles that must continue to guide the community. He urged the public to avoid dependency on “freebies,” cautioning that benefits received without effort often come with consequences, and encouraged the practice of patience and genuine hard work.
He also called for the responsible preservation of natural resources, reminding that the forefathers practiced conservation even without formal education. Speaking against unethical hunting and fishing practices driven by greed, he observed that the desire for more has led to harmful practices that threaten the environment and community sustenance.
Calling for greater unity, he expressed concern over growing divisions within society, organizations, and even among national workers. He appealed to the people to rise above tribal and internal differences and collectively work towards harmony and progress.
The indigenous games were officially declared open by the special guest, with Team Metamorphosis—a local NGO—officiating the event. The competition featured high jump, traditional thread yarn, tug of war, and spear throwing.
In the traditional thread yarn competition, Lireni Odyuo secured first place, followed by Kimongi Murry and Lokyilongo Kithan as the first and second runners-up respectively.
In the Youdeliting category, Chumben Erui emerged as the winner, while Chonben Tungoe and Chonben Kikon finished as the first and second runners-up.
The high jump event was won by Nchumbemo Z. Ezung, with Abamgo Ezung and Lanchithung placing second and third respectively.
In spear throwing, N. Amos Humtsoe clinched the top spot. The final match of the tug of war will be contested between GHS Colony and Midland Colony on November 7.
