Nagaland: Day-8 of Hornbill festival showcases tribal heritage

DIMAPUR, DEC 8 (NPN)

The eighth day of the 26th Hornbill Festival 2025 featured a vibrant Cultural Show at Unity Plaza, Naga Heritage Village, Kisama.
Hosted by minister Rural Development & SIRD Metsubo Jamir and co-hosted by advisor Tribal Affairs & Election H. Tovihoto Ayemi, the programme was graced by Minister of State for Communication and Rural Development Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar as chief guest and secretary ministry of DoNER Chanchal Kumar as special guest. Also present were M. Ragja Murugan managing director Tribal Co-operative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) and U.J. Chamargore, director (Technical)-II, NHIDCL, along with other dignitaries
The day highlighted Nagaland’s tribal heritage through traditional dances, folk songs, indigenous games, and ritual performances. The Lotha troupe performed Chumpo Shar, Chakhesang presented Pheta, and the Konyak troupe rendered Ya-ai Boa.
The Yimkhiung showcased the Go-Cart game, while Kuki performed Vakol Lam. Other highlights included Zeliang’s Chakhiu Lui, Khiamniungan’s Shiekou, Garo’s wrestling game Gando Makkal Pala, Chang’s Shangbili Chia, and Kachari’s Laijam Bonai.
Angami performed Tholi Keva, Ao presented Azütu, Tikhir showcased Tsahyok Tsin, and Phom performed Yangja Khümpo. The Pochury, Rengma, Sangtam, and Sumi troupes concluded with games and war dances reflecting teamwork, ritual, and cultural pride.
The performances drew enthusiastic response from visitors, highlighting the diversity and vibrancy of Nagaland’s tribal heritage at the Hornbill Festival 2025.
