Nagaland: DC Kohima sets up team for Dzükou fire

DIMAPUR, JAN 27 (NPN)

In view of the reported outbreak of fire in Southern Dzükou valley, the deputy commissioner (DC) Kohima, B. Henok Buchem has set up a team for reconnaissance and rescue operation to contain the further spread of the fire.
In an order, DC Kohima stated that the team would be led by SDO(Civil) Jakhama, Vineikho Tetso, (Ph No. 8974514789) comprising of SDPO (South); district commandant, home guards; range forest officer, forest department; nodal officer, DDMA Kohima; OC, fire & emergency services and representatives from Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO).
The team has been directed to report to the site of the fire incident and take stock of the situation.
DC assured that all available resources would be mobilized to contain the further spread of the fire.
The team has also been directed to report to DC Kohima on a regular basis for further course of action.

SAYO suspends trekking to Dzükou valley: Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) has issued a temporary suspension of trekking to Dzükou valley following a report of fire outbreak on the trails leading to the valley.
In a notification, SAYO president Zasitsolie Beio and general secretary Keneisel Tetso stated that suspension applies to both the entry points from Jakhama entry and Viswema entry until further notice.
SAYO informed that the fire incident reported on January 26, 2026 has been blazing uncontrollably, posing serious risk to all trekkers.
Stating that it was coordinating with the government agencies and stakeholders in assessing the situation, SAYO expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to general public.
