In view of the continued and increasing presence of wild elephants at several locations under Niuland district, the deputy commissioner (DC) Niuland Sara S Jamir has advised the general public to refrain from venturing in to the known elephant corridors, forested areas and streams especially after daylight hours.
In an advisory, DC Niuland also urged the people to avoid any form of confrontation and chase or use loud noises or fire crackers to drive away the elephants as such actions could trigger aggression and cause harm to both human lives and property.
Further, DC informed the general public to contact deputy ranger Hukhai, I/C wildlife crime control unit, Dimapur at (8787890194) for any emergency related to the presence of wild elephants in the district.
