Nagaland DENSU celebrates 34th annual meet

DIMAPUR

Delhi Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union (DENSU) hosted its 34th Annual Meet at Nagaland House, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Road, New Delhi, under the theme “Forging Paths from Shared Dreams, Empowering Change.” The event brought together students, professionals, and well-wishers from across Delhi NCR in a vibrant celebration of unity and cultural heritage.
Advisor to the Chief Minister, vice president of the Athletics Federation of India, and chairman of the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), Abu Metha, graced the occasion as chief guest.
In his address, Metha lauded DENSU’s commitment to youth empowerment and community service, stating that Eastern Naga youth are “incredibly talented, creative, and full of potential,” and emphasized the importance of unity and collective resolve in overcoming challenges.
Guest of honour, Sharon Longchari, joint resident commissioner, Nagaland House, commended DENSU for its self-reliant growth and innovative fundraising efforts. She praised the Union’s shift from traditional political aid to genuine partnerships and sponsorships, calling it a model of creativity and independence.
In his presidential address, DENSU president Alun L. Khiungru encouraged youth to strive for personal growth while contributing meaningfully to the community, affirming that Eastern Nagas are second to none in potential.
The programme featured a special segment titled “Legacy of Guidance: A Tribute,” honouring long-serving mentors Loipong Konyak, Dr. Hentok Phom, and Lisapila Anar with certificates of honour for their decades of dedicated service to the Eastern Naga community in Delhi.
Dignitaries present included minister for Higher Education and Tourism Temjen Imna Along, Manpon Konyak MLA, TaFMA chairman Theja Meru, Nagaland Honey Bee Mission chairman Obed Quinker, deputy director and senior PRO IPR Kuolie Mere, former NSF president G. Vashum, former ENSF president Hawang Konyak, and NPF youth wing working president Lhouvi Punyu.
The event commenced with a traditional log drum performance by Eastern Naga personnel of Nagaland Armed Police, Wazirabad, invocation by Vintsu Tikhir of Delhi Eastern Nagaland Fellowship, and welcome address by DENSU general secretary Lumsela Sangtam.
The programme concluded with DENSU’s signature cultural presentation “Threads of Culture,” followed by a vote of thanks by vice president Nyiamli Phom and closing prayer by chaplain Moasunep Imsong. The evening session titled “Sound of the Hills” showcased cultural and musical performances celebrating the vibrancy of Eastern Nagaland’s heritage.
