Nagaland: DF&ES warns against indiscriminate forest burning

DIMAPUR, JAN 22 (NPN)

Directorate of Fire & Emergency Services (F&ES) has raised serious concern over continued indiscriminate burning of forests by hunters, campers, miscreants, and others during the dry and windy season.
According to a DIPR report, the department stated that despite efforts by F&ES firefighters, village volunteers, district administration, and police to contain fires near residential areas, such incidents continue.
The department reiterated it cannot respond to every forest fire unless it threatens human settlements.
It said the state government, district administration, and forest department have repeatedly banned forest fires due to severe ecological impact.
F&ES appealed to the public and village councils to take proactive measures to prevent burning and impose strict action on violators.
Nagaland recorded 188 forest fire cases in 2025, with Kohima district alone accounting for 91.
