Director General Assam Rifles, Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, visited Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) at Kohima on March 6 where he was briefed on operational preparedness, prevailing security situation and welfare measures for troops in the region.
During his interaction with all ranks, the DG lauded their dedication and professionalism in maintaining peace and stability in Nagaland. He stressed the importance of synergy between security forces and the local population to ensure peace and development.
Commending IGAR (North) for its civic action programmes, he noted the initiatives undertaken to foster goodwill and strengthen bonds with the people.
As part of welfare measures, Lt Gen Lakhera inaugurated a newly built sports complex inside Kohima Garrison. He said indulgence in sports promotes discipline, sportsmanship and a healthy lifestyle, providing a positive platform for troops to channel their energy constructively and nurture hidden talent.
Later in Dimapur, the DG inaugurated the newly constructed Sainik Institute along with a modern Cook House at the Sector Headquarters. The institute, designed as a vibrant recreational space, offers facilities for wholesome meals, relaxation and social interaction.
The upgraded Cook House, equipped with improved kitchen infrastructure and storage, aims to ensure hygienic, efficient preparation of nutritious meals for soldiers.
Interacting with troops, Lt Gen Lakhera appreciated the sector’s efforts in maintaining high standards of discipline, administration and welfare.
He emphasised that robust infrastructure and efficient logistical support are vital for sustaining operational readiness and morale in challenging environments.
