Director General of Police (DGP) Rupin Sharma on Friday announced that the Government of India has approved funding for an AI-enabled CCTV and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) network in Dimapur and Kohima to strengthen surveillance and crime prevention.
Addressing the media here on Friday, DGP said the project would include centralised 24×7 control rooms and is expected to be rolled out over the next four to six months.
Internet connectivity for the first year will be provided free of cost, while discussions are underway to address long-term operational expenses.
Sharma appealed for public cooperation in implementing the project, including small logistical support such as providing electricity connections or space where required.
