The Regional Transport Authority (RTA), Dimapur, has finalised revised auto rickshaw fares for Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland, with implementation scheduled for 2026. The decision was taken during an RTA meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
Announcing this at a press conference on Thursday at the Dimapur District Auto Drivers Union (DDADU) office, DDADU president Tito Yepthomi urged both commuters and auto drivers to strictly follow the revised fare chart once it comes into force.
He said the updated rates would be widely circulated- including through print media- to ensure maximum public awareness.
Acknowledging frequent complaints of overcharging, Yepthomi appealed to auto drivers to refrain from demanding unreasonable fares, noting that only a minor variation of Rs.10-20 may be acceptable under certain conditions.
He also urged Naga auto drivers to avoid seeking additional charges or indulging in inappropriate behaviour and encouraged Naga commuters to support local drivers.
On grievance redressal, Yepthomi informed that 12 designated parking in-charges have been appointed across Dimapur, with their contact details displayed at respective parking points.
Passengers facing overcharging have been advised to note the auto number and the driver’s ID details for necessary action.
Touching on safety and compliance, he said seminars for auto drivers are organised two to three times a year in coordination with government agencies.
However, he added that many Nagas lease their autos to non-Naga drivers, some of whom begin driving with only a few days of training, leading to safety lapses- especially among those without uniforms or ID cards. On disciplinary measures, Yepthomi said drivers found overcharging would have their ID cards confiscated and could face suspension ranging from one week to a month.
He also emphasised the mandatory use of uniforms and assured assistance to Naga drivers who were unable to afford them.
