A one-day open penalty shootout competition was organized at Riga’s Astro Turf, New Terogvunyu, Tseminyu district, under the initiative of Mera Yuva Bharat Tseminyu in collaboration with the Nagaland Association for Adventure Mountaineering & Education (NAAME), the implementing FNGO under the Nagaland Forest Management Project (NFMP), and the Terogvunyu Youth Organization (TYO). The event was held on February 13 with support from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MoYS).
The penalty shootout witnessed spirited participation, with Sharp Shooters emerging as champions and bagging a cash prize of Rs. 15,000. Super V FC finished as runners-up, securing Rs. 10,000.
The programme was flagged off by Range Forest Officer (RFO) and FMU Head of Tseminyu, Yhuntilo Kent, in the presence of officials from the Divisional Management Unit (DMU) Kohima.
Speaking at the event, Team Leader of NAAME, Akho Phira, highlighted the objectives of the convergence programme. He emphasized the concurrent project’s focus on forest and environmental protection, rejuvenation and enhancement, alongside special investments in strengthening Self Help Groups (SHGs) through Income Generation Activities (IGAs) supported by NFMP. The sports event, he added, was designed not only to nurture athletic talent but also to creatively engage youth in awareness-building towards environmental conservation.
