Observing that business establishments were still using/selling the single-use plastic despite government imposing complete ban SUP with effect from August 1, 2024, the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) has given time till September 30, 2024 to dispose of their respective old stocks, if any.
In a notification, DMC chief executive officer (CEO), Thungchanbemo Tungoe, cautioned that on expiry of the stipulated period, necessary checking would be conducted and defaulter/defaulters would be penalized as per provision of law. Meanwhile, DMC said it was in the process of introducing bio-degradable eco-friendly carry bags in the market for the convenience of all business people and general public to be used as an alternative to SUP.
Parking fee: In another notification, DMC CEO Thungchanbemo Tungoe has notified that henceforth DMC parking fees would be collected from private vehicles on hourly basis in lieu of location basis. However, DMC informed that all government vehicles were exempted from paying of parking fees.
