Nagaland: DNSU calls for responsible celebrations during Durga Puja and Diwali

Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has extended warm greetings in light of Durga Puja and upcoming Diwali festivals.

In a bid to promote safe and environmentally friendly celebrations, DNSU president Hinoto P Aomi and general secretary Michael Kath urged all to refrain from using banned chemicals and barium firecrackers, prohibited nationwide by the Supreme Court.

DNSU emphasized the importance of avoiding high-volume sound systems during the festivities. They also reminded shopkeepers and street vendors against the illegal sale of banned firecrackers, highlighting the negative impact such practices can have on the community and the environment.

The union pointed out that the use of harmful firecrackers poses serious health risks, particularly to individuals with heart problems and other medical conditions.

They urged citizens to be mindful of “Silence Zones,” defined as areas within 100 meters of hospitals, educational institutions, courts, religious sites, and other designated locations.
DNSU called for adherence to designated times for bursting green crackers, with strict compliance to the rule prohibiting noise beyond 10 p.m.

Meanwhile, the union reported receiving complaints about the sale of banned firecrackers without valid licenses from competent authorities and warned that they would take action to seize such items.

DNSU appealed to all colony councils, youth organizations, and authorities to take proactive measures to monitor and prevent unauthorized firecracker usage in their respective areas.
