Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has expressed concern over complaints received from students and parents regarding certain educational institutions allegedly charging high fees for students reappearing in failed subjects during model tests and other internal examinations.
In a press release, DNSU president Hinoto P. Aomi and secretary (education) Kevin Gonmei stated that while institutions may levy reasonable and nominal re-examination fees for administrative purposes, it had received reports that some institutions were collecting amounts ranging from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 5,000 per subject.
The union said the fees were reportedly refundable upon successfully clearing the examination, with institutions justifying the practice as a measure to promote academic seriousness among students.
While acknowledging the importance of maintaining academic discipline, DNSU emphasised that motivating students should not result in financial strain on parents and guardians.
It maintained that academic improvement should be encouraged through constructive and student-friendly approaches rather than financial pressure.
The union appealed to all concerned institutions to review and rationalise such fee structures and ensure fair and reasonable practices. DNSU further informed that it would continue to monitor the matter to safeguard the interests of students and parents. For grievances, the union has asked students and parents to contact the assistant general secretary at +91 98626 75997.
