Nagaland: DNSU slams govt inaction on Nirmal Jain case

DIMAPUR, DEC 8 (NPN)

Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has expressed deep dissatisfaction over the State Government’s silence on the case of Shri Nirmal Kumar Jain, who is alleged to have illegally procured a Non-Naga Indigenous Inhabitant of Nagaland Certificate and acquired land through fraudulent means.
In a press note, DNSU president Hinoto P. Aomi and general secretary Michael Kath said that following a representation submitted by the union, an Internal Committee constituted by the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, examined the matter and “confirmed aggravated fraud, deception, conspiracy, and deliberate intent to defraud the Government.”
Following this, DNSU said Commissioner of Nagaland issued a show cause notice to Nirmal Jain on November 14, 2025, directing him to submit a written clarification within 15 days.
DNSU pointed out that the 15-day deadline had expired, yet no follow-up action or official response has been communicated, neither to the union nor the public. DNSU said this delay reflected poorly on the government’s resolve to protect the rights and identity of indigenous inhabitants.
DNSU firmly stated that the government must not test the patience of the people, stressing that matters of indigenous identity and rightful citizenship cannot and will not be compromised under any circumstances.
The union demanded immediate cancellation of the fraudulently obtained certificate by Nirmal Jain, initiation of legal and administrative action against Nirmal Jain and any officials involved, and a formal written response from the state government without further delay.
DNSU warned that continued inaction would compel it to take the next democratic course of action in the interest of Nagaland’s indigenous people.
