Nagaland: DoPN rolls out smart meters in 3 districts

DIMAPUR, NOV 30 (NPN)

In commemoration of Statehood Day on December 1, Department of Power, Nagaland (DoPN), announced that Smart Post-paid meters in Dimapur, Kohima and Chümoukedima Divisions will be converted to Smart Pre-paid meters in a phased manner under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
Informing this in a press note, Chief Engineer (D&R) said SMS alerts will be sent to registered mobile numbers three days prior to the conversion. Consumers will also receive subsequent notifications on events such as low balance alerts, disconnection notices, recharge confirmations and reconnections. To ensure uninterrupted supply during the transition, CE said that an emergency credit of Rs. 300 would be automatically loaded at the time of conversion.
No disconnections would be carried out for depletion of this emergency credit for up to five working days. The emergency credit and any consumption during this period would be adjusted from the first recharge. Consumers were therefore advised to recharge before the credit expires or before completion of the five-day window.
Further, the department stated that outstanding dues accumulated during the post-paid period would be recovered in six equal instalments over six months. Payments are to be made at the sub-division cash counters before the 10th of every month. Failure to pay any instalment by the due date would lead to disconnection of power supply, it cautioned.
Consumers may recharge their accounts at the respective sub-division cash counters, through the DoPN portal, or by using the “Smart Meter-Nagaland” mobile app available on the Google Play Store. The iOS version of the app will be released soon, the department added.
