Nagaland Dr. Shürhozelie laments hatred, divisions

The “Writers and Poets Meet,” hosted by the Ura Academy in Kohima on October 30, served as a platform to reinforce the institution’s role as a unifying force for the Tenyimi people.
In his keynote address, Ura Academy president Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu reflected on the current climate of division. “We are living in a time where there are too many divisions,” he stated. “Whether in politics or even among national workers, we have too much differences and hatred for each other.”
Against this backdrop, Dr. Liezietsu underscored that the Ura Academy is a common heritage. “Ura Academy belongs to all the Tenyimi people. No one has lordship over it, and everyone is equally an owner,” he asserted.
He challenged the notion that only contributors or leaders have a stake in the Academy, urging every individual to abandon such attitudes and embrace a sense of collective responsibility.
“We have to contribute towards the academy in whichever way possible and work collectively since it belongs to all of us,” he said, emphasizing that it is the “only true platform among us where we all are owners.”
Reflecting on the Academy’s history, Dr. Liezietsu noted that it was founded by forefathers for the people, and that from the group elected to office in 1970, only Reverend Tsolie Chase and himself remain.
He also acknowledged the vital role of the younger generation, stating that over the years, “many young and highly intellectual youths have come and revitalized the academy.”
The event was blessed with an invocation and Bible reading by Kevingulie Rhatsu, Director of the Angami Christian Literature Society, ABCC. A poetry recitation was delivered by M. Meguo-o.
A highlight of the meet was the release of nine new books, including:
 Nagamia Seyie Dze by Shürhozelie Liezietsu
