Advisor for School Education and State Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT), Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, visited the ongoing remediation work at the KMC dumping site at Dzürüzou, Meriema, Kohima, on February 3, 2026.
The project is being undertaken under SBM (U)-2.0, Dumpsite Remediation Acceleration Programme (DRAP) for legacy waste remediation. Dr. Yhome was accompanied by Mission Director, SBM (Urban), Kezhochole Rhetso, and officials of the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC).
According to DIPR, the Mission Director and KMC officials highlighted the works initiated under the programme to make Kohima a dumpsite-free city, noting that the project is to be completed within the timeline set by the Ministry.
Urging officials to expedite the ongoing works, Dr. Yhome stressed the need to complete the remediation process within the stipulated period. He also appealed to the public to actively cooperate by adopting proper waste management practices, particularly through waste segregation at the household level. He emphasized that segregation of waste into biodegradable, non-biodegradable, and hazardous categories was essential for effective collection and scientific disposal.
Public participation and responsible disposal habits, he added, were key to maintaining cleanliness and improving overall environmental sustainability.
