In a significant operation aimed at curbing drug menace in the state, the Kohima Police on Friday destroyed narcotics worth Rs. Rs 1.34 crore, following an order issued by the Special Judge, NDPS, Kohima on September 30, 2024.
The operation, carried out under strict supervision, witnessed the destruction of a total of 1,028 kilograms of drugs at the KMC dumping site at Meriema.
Among the drugs destroyed were 350 kilograms of ganja (35 packets) seized in 2021 from Agri Colony, linked to a case registered at Kohima South Police Station, heroin weighing 180 grams, packed in 12 soap cases, was seized at Khuzama Check gate, in connection with a 2022 case under Khuzama Police Station.
A substantial seizure of ganja, weighing 680 kilograms (66 packets) which was made near Sechu Zubza Police Station in a 2022 case, and 500 bottles of cough syrup seized at Kidima village in a 2023 case linked to Kezocha Police Station, were also destroyed.
The destruction was headed by a committee led by DIG Range Uniel Kichu Ao. The operation was conducted in the presence of Kohima SP Bharat Laxman Markad, along with SDPO North, Sheta Lohe and the chairman of Meriema village council. The drugs were disposed of after receiving forensic reports for some of the substances, while others remain pending.
