Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF) has formally sought detailed clarification from the office of the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Dimapur, regarding reports that the existing DC office could be shifted to a new location.
Speaking to the media after submitting a representation at DC office here on Saturday, DUCCF vice president Tongzuk Pongen said the federation had received information from reliable sources indicating a possible relocation of DC office.
In view of the public importance of the matter, Pongen said DUCCF requested the district administration to provide details to ensure better communication and understanding among the general public.
In the representation, the federation queried whether the proposed shifting of the DC office was indeed planned and, if so, disclose the new location where the office would be relocated.
DUCCF also sought to know tentative timeline for the relocation, including the expected date of the move, and whether the existing DC office building would be dismantled to facilitate construction of a new structure.
In this regard, the federation has quested the authorities to provide the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed new building, along with the anticipated duration for project completion.
Further, DUCCF requested the administration to disclose the name of the firm or contractor that had been awarded the construction work.
The representation was jointly signed by DUCCF vice president Tongzuk Pongen and joint secretary Makuran Rongmei.
The federation expressed hope that the district administration would respond promptly to the queries in the interest of public clarity and transparency.
Meanwhile, in a telephonic conversation, DC Dimapur Dr Tinojongshi Chang, said that the exact date for shifting has not yet been finalised. He informed that renovation works, including mechanical wiring, were currently in progress at the proposed temporary site located at the Survey Training Institute in Purana Bazar.
Dr. Chang added that the relocation of the DC office was tentatively scheduled to take place between March 15 and 20, 2026. He clarified that the relocation would be temporary.
He further stated that the present DC office building would eventually be demolished to make way for the construction of a new building.
