Nagaland DUCCF threatens to file FIR against NH deptt

DIMAPUR, OCT 31 (NPN)

Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF) has expressed deep concern over the recent road accident that occurred near DDSC Stadium, which it claimed was attributed to the large pothole that was left unattended along the National Highway stretch under the National Highway (NH) department Dimapur division.
In a press release, DUCCF information and publicity secretary Kevipietsu Savino said that the NH department, despite repeated appeals from the public and various civil organizations, failed to address the deteriorating road condition, which continues to endanger commuters on a daily basis. The federation stated that the incident was a grim reminder of the gross negligence and non-adherence to safety norms by the responsible authorities.
With the festive season approaching, DUCCF said heavy vehicular movement and public gatherings were expected, making immediate repair and maintenance works “absolutely urgent.”
DUCCF has, therefore, urged the NH department Dimapur division to take swift and concrete action to repair and restore the affected portion of the road to prevent further accidents and loss of life. Failing to act within a reasonable timeframe, the DUCCF has threatened to file an FIR against the department and officials for dereliction of duty and public endangerment under relevant legal provisions.
Reiterating that public safety was non-negotiable, the federation asserted that accountability must be upheld in all public works. It said repairing of such potholes should be maintained and immediate action should be taken by the department.
