Nagaland: ENPO, ENNWF reaffirm ‘peace zone status’

The Eastern Naga People’s Organisation (ENPO) and the Eastern Naga National Workers’ Forum (ENNWF) have reaffirmed the December 18, 2007 Tuensang Summit resolution in declaring the entire eastern jurisdiction as peace zone.

This was resolved at the consultative and coordination meeting of both the organisations held at CKS Hall, Tuensang on Wednesday. As approved in the November 12, 2024 CEC meeting resolution, the meeting unanimously reaffirmed the December 18. 2007 Tuensang Summit resolution that there should be no bloodshed, threat, intimidation or any form of violence in eastern jurisdiction, besides resolving that the ENPO would not extend any public cooperation to any group for non-compliance of the resolution.

The reaffirmation also resolved to cover all citizens beyond its jurisdiction and appealed all Naga political groups (NPGs) to strictly adhere to and comply with this historic resolution and re-affirmation.

The house resolved to appeal to all the NPGs to uphold ceasefire ground rules in spirit within eastern jurisdiction and also to sincerely pursue the decades-old Naga struggle/cause through peace talks and negotiation.

Declaring that its good office could act as a mediator in an event if and when there was any appeal/request from the NPG for peace negotiations with the central government, it was decided that the ENPO would continue to strive in mainstreaming all NPGs to a negotiating table towards early Naga political solution.

Reiterating its early stance/call “unity first”, the meeting resolved to appeal all NPGs to “unite under one unified umbrella” for an amicable Naga solution that was honourable, inclusive and acceptable, while discouraging mushrooming of numerous breakaway factions within NPGs.

To avoid confrontation/complication/misunderstanding between any two NPGs in a situation when the same case was being filed in two separate courts, the meeting further resolved to discourage NPG courts at the regional/tribal level entertaining civilian case in their courts.

All tribes concerned have been assigned to disseminate this resolution ensuring that no civilian should file any case in the NPG courts within their respective dominion, cautioning that defaulters would be penalised as per the tribal law of the land.

On account of the growing anti-social elements/practices within the NPGs that defamed their respective offices, the meeting also resolved to appeal all the NPGs to take serious note of drugs peddlers and users within their respective folds.

The meeting appealed all the NPGs to initiate a cleansing of such elements within a time frame so as to strictly maintain the sanctity of their good offices in the society, besides urging them to terminate/relinquish such people from active service and never recruit such people into their folds.

In this regard, the tribes have been directed to initiate strong measures so as to facilitate the NPGs successfully implement the resolution within their own folds. This was stated in an ENPO press release.
